This assortment of seasonal cheer features Stevie Wonder applying his inimitable vocal technique to familiar and unusual Yuletide songs, with predictably successful results. In "Someday at Christmas" he yearns for a Christmas when "Men won't be boys/playing with bombs like kids play with toys"--this album was recorded during the Vietnam War--striking a plaintive tone not often found on Christmas albums. Other high points include his joyous reading of "Little Drummer Boy," with its steadily building martial beat, and chestnuts like "Silver Bells" and "The Christmas Song," which Wonder delivers with total assurance, as well as a palpable sense of fun. He even brings a measure of soul to more sentimental numbers like "One Little Christmas Tree" and "Twinkle Twinkle Little Me," while "What Christmas Means to Me" invokes the bubbling bass line of the Capitols' "Cool Jerk," and features a blissful harp solo.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0799/7787/3626/files/ChristmasCollection20thCenturyMasters_btwjre.jpg?v=1770977157
stevie-wonder-songs-in-the-key-of-life-2-lp-7-180-gram-vinyl-reissue-vinyl
Stevie Wonder – Songs In The Key Of Life [7"] – 180 Gram Vinyl LP

Songs In The Key Of Life [7"] is a soul & R&B album by Stevie Wonder on Motown. More sprawling than Innervisions and Talking Book, this two-LP-plus-EP was also less of a consistent stunner than either of those masterworks. That Songs retains an enormous amount of visionary relevance, though, is demonstrated not only in Coolio's borrowing of "Pastime Paradise" as a template for "Gangsta's Paradise," but in the cold-as-ice synthesized string quartet of "Village Ghetto Land." This is Stevie, so naturally that cut's anger is balanced by the ultra-buoyant "I Wish," "Sir Duke," and "Another Star." The 2000 reissue boasts radically improved remastered sound. --Rickey Wright

From Stevie Wonder comes Someday At Christmas, a soul & R&B, pop and Christmas album on Motown. This comprehensive set spans over 3 decades (1965-96) and contains 13 #1 hits (more than any other Stevie Wonder CD ever released). Along with such familiar favorites as I Was Made to Love Her," "I Just Called to Say I Love You" and "Superstition," this album contains the never before released "Stay Gold," from the film the Outsiders. Thirty or so of Stevie Wonder's biggest hits--many of them enduring classics--make up this double disc. That's the good news. The bad news is that they're sequenced here about as well (or maybe not) as your CD player's "random" function might do it. Leading off with "Part-Time Lover"--a major chart record, no doubt, but hardly the rouser you'd expect for an opener--is puzzling enough. It's when the programming starts veering from highlights of his self-produced period ("Sir Duke") to Motown assembly-line pieces ("My Cherie Amour") that the head-scratching really begins. And don't try to count the great moments that are missing. This will do in a pinch, but if you own no Stevie, be advised that better overviews of Wonder's career (the finest by far being the four-CD box At the Close of a Century) are available. --Rickey Wright

From Stevie Wonder comes Music Of My Mind [Gatefold Jacket], a pop album on Motown. The sixteenth album by American musician Stevie Wonder, released August 3, 1973 on Motown Records; a landmark recording of his "classic period". The nine tracks of Innervisions encompass a wide range of themes and issues: from drug abuse in "Too High, " through social anger in "Living for the City, " to love in the ballads "All in Love is Fair" and "Golden Lady."As with many of Stevie Wonder's albums the lyrics, composition and production are almost entirely his own work, with the ARP synthesizer used prominently throughout the album. This instrument was a common motif among musicians of the time because of it's ability to construct a complete sound environment. Wonder was the first black artist to experiment with this technology on a mass scale, and Innervisions was hugely influential on the subsequent future of commercial black music. He also played all or virtually all instruments on six of the album's nine tracks, making most of Innervisions a representative one-man band.

Original Musiquarium is a soul & R&B album by Stevie Wonder on Motown.
