Dub mixing - a process of creating new "versions" of songs that emphasize the rhythm section and heavy utilization of atmospheric effects such as delay and reverb - looms so large as a driving force in that world, it is no wonder that the band would approach it with the same mix of reverence and creativity. "Dub is the other side of The Slackers," says the band's guitarist, Agent Jay. "A contrast to the uptempo danceable wit of our ska."The Dub Classics LP - originally released (and sold out) in 2021 and now available from Pirates Press Records - represents a collection of some of the greatest fruits of that labor. More than just a "re-mix" album, it is an essential part of the band's catalog that reinvents their sound and reveals all new perspectives on their many talents. Although Agent Jay did not join the band's "full time" lineup until 2004, he had played with them off and on for a decade prior. He was familiar with their early material, even though he had not played on the albums. "When you strip the songs down to their individual tracks, you hear all kinds of imperfections," he says. "But also cool details that were buried in the original mix that you now want to highlight in the dub."While in some ways an item for "super fans" already acquainted with the band's repertoire, Agent Jay points out that this album could also function as "a gateway to The Slackers for fans of dub in general."TRACK LISTING Do Ya Dub Dubbed Days Make Me Dub ft. In their well over 30-year career, The Slackers have been one of the most consistently prolific artists in the game. While that means their legions of worldwide fans are never wanting for new material, it can also mean that once in a while, even dedicated fans can miss a new song here or there. Thus, it's helpful that the band periodically collects some of these lesser known and sought-after gems for wide release under the Lost & Found banner! Lost & Found Vol 2 includes some of the rarest Slackers tunes of them all. Live versions of several songs as well as the studio track "Diskambobulated" come from ultra-rare lathe cut singles. Still others come from limited one-time-only single pressings on PPR, including two 12" singles & one collaborative 7" which features a collaboration with Japanese dancehall sensation Papa B. Regarding one of the standout tracks: "'Diskambobulated' was recorded back in 2013," explains saxophonist David Hillyard. "We had a fundraiser for what became our self-titled album. As part of the fundraiser, we had a 'The Slackers will record your song' option. Gregory Sellas brought us [the] song...in a 3rd wave ska style with his band [Keep Off]." Hillyard goes on to explain how the band "fell in love with it" and the song worked its way into The Slackers' repertoire: "Vic & I were listening to it and the lyrics made us think of a boogaloo. We did an extensive reworking of the tune in that style and this is the result." This is the first time the song will appear in wide release on an LP, as well as on streaming services. Lost & Found Vol 2 by The Slackers is available from Pirates Press Records on 12" Bone Vinyl with Black Splatter. The jacket features art by David "Boss Harmz" Orlando and layout by Catt Gould.
