Description
x2001's 'The Smell Of Rain' heralded seismic changes for Emperor alumnus Mortiis. Mortiis stepped up to the microphone as a lead vocalist for the first time, and the album expanded to encompass more live musicians, ushering in a metamorphosis in his sound. Closer to synthpop in parts, the album clutched more tightly onto it's industrial rock sensibilities and became significantly more refined and propulsive as a result. It had a lithe groove, subtle catchiness, and a thrumming, murky energy. Looking back now, it was a truly unique release for Mortiis amidst the rest of his discography.
