The Good Brothers Thirty years of recording and touring doesn't seem to have dampened this Toronto trio's passion for music. Twins Bruce and Brian and younger brother Larry combine their talents on banjo, guitar and autoharp along with finely blended vocal harmonies for a bluegrass/folk/roots record that delivers foot-stomping energy on nearly every tune. The pinnacle of the dust-raising has to be the album's silliest song, "Big Pig Jig," while the cheerful-sounding "Nothing Has Changed" reveals a surprising air of melancholy. The Goods, along with John P. Allen on fiddle and next-generation Goods Dallas and Travis (of Toronto pop-roots act the Sadies) on mandolin and guitar, mix traditional tunes like "Old Man at the Mill" with originals such as the title track and a few covers. Of the latter, the highlight is a bluegrass version of Quebec singer-songwriter Michel Pagliaro's great '70s AM hit, "What the Hell I've Got." The disc ends, appropriately, with the Goods' voices marvellously harmonizing on a message about the "one true thing we hold within / We all believe in love." --Shawn Conner
